Tennessee high school football predictions in Columbia area for Week 3

Following an exciting Week 2 of the Tennessee high school football season, the action continues Friday. Heading into Week 3, the USA TODAY Sports Network in Tennessee previews TSSAA football action in the Columbia area, along with predictions for each game.

Here are the top gams in the Columbia area.

Friendship Christian (1-1) at Columbia Academy (1-1)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Columbia Academy and Friendship Christian are each looking to bounce back after losses in Week 2. The Bulldogs will rely on running back Montae Baldwin, who’s already racked up 442 yards this season, while Harrison Brownlee and Wyatt Ayers have emerged as a strong one-two punch at receiver. Friendship Christian, last season’s DII-A state runner up, will like its chances to improve on a scoreless outing last week, after the Bulldogs allowed 56 points to Webb School – Bell Buckle.

Prediction: Columbia Academy 28, Friendship Christian 20

Hunters Lane (1-1) at Columbia Central (1-1)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Columbia got back to winning last week, while Hunters Lane suffered a loss to Class 6A Mt. Juliet. Columbia has found success with quarterbacks Burton Moore and Daniel Booker splitting snaps. The defense, led by Indiana commit Jhrevious Hall, scored eight of the Lions 22 points last week.

Prediction: Columbia 24, Hunters Lane 14

Independence (0-2) at Centennial (1-1)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Independence is looking for its first win as it faces Centennial who is fresh off a 35-point win over Summit. Six-foot-6 sophomore Matthew Horner has emerged at quarterback for Independence and his ability on the run will be key for the Eagles this week.

Prediction: Centennial 28, Independence 14

Maplewood (0-2) at Spring Hill (0-2)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Spring Hill has fallen in two hard fought games to start the season, while Maplewood has been outscored 103-6 through two weeks. The Raiders are a young team but are developing with sophomore quarterback Cordell Isaac. Senior receiver and kick return specialist Patrick Bunch is emerging as one of his top weapons. Spring Hill should capitalize on a shaky Maplewood defense.

Prediction: Spring Hill 24, Maplewood 14

Mt. Pleasant (2-0, 0-0 in 5-2A) at Waverly (0-2, 0-0)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Mt. Pleasant is off to a hot start despite graduating Mr. Football finalist Darien Meza. Transfer quarterback Jon Michael Wright has struck a connection with brothers Jayden and Jakyri McClure, the ladder of which has four total touchdowns and 421 yards on the season.

Prediction: Mt. Pleasant 40, Waverly 14

Summit (1-1) at Green Hill (2-0)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

After a Week 2 loss, Summit heads to Green Hill looking to end the Hawks’ undefeated start to the season. Green Hill has scored at least 40 points in its first two games, while Summit gave up 42 to Centennial last week. The Spartans’ offense will have to get its run game going on Friday night to compete.

Prediction: Green Hill 35, Summit 24

Loretto (1-1, 0-0 in 5-2A) at Harpeth (1-1, 0-0)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Loretto is looking to bounce back from a one-score loss to Class 5A Lawrence County last week. It’s led by a strong offensive core that includes junior receiver Corben Reynolds, who has five touchdowns through two games.

Prediction: Loretto 31, Harpeth 17

Lincoln County (1-1, 0-0 in 5-5A) at Lawrence County (1-1,0-0)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Lincoln County’s offense has looked strong, putting up 69 points over two games. It’s hard to know which version of Lawrence County we’ll see, but if Hayden Pettigrew and Ian Clayton can replicate last week’s offensive output, the Wildcats will be a tough to slow down.

Prediction: Lincoln County 35, Lawrence County 28

Hickman County (0-2, 0-0 in 5-2A) at Summertown (2-0, 0-0)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Summertown has already doubled its win total from last season, with two defensively stout performances. Hickman County won’t love the matchup after scoring just 15 total points this season, while Summertown hasn’t allowed a point through Week 2.

Prediction: Summertown 21, Hickman County 7

Richland (1-1, 0-0 in 5-1A) at Wayne County (0-2, 0-0)

Time: 7 p.m. When: Friday

Last week, Richland secured its biggest win since the 2021, beating Cascade, 54-14. The Raiders will look to continue the good form against a struggling Wayne County team. Richland’s offense seems to have found its form with Blane Woodard at quarterback.

Prediction: Richland 24, Wayne County 7
