Week 1 of Iowa high school football shaped up to be a thrilling start to the 2024 IHSAA football season.

Iowa City Liberty earned the top spot after handing Iowa City West a 56-45 loss in the season opener. The Lightning, who rushed for 365 yards, made a statement on the ground while their defense slowed down the Trojans’ talented offense with two interceptions. Solon and Clear Creek Amana blew out Assumption and Marion, respectively. Regina Catholic picked up a 42-28 win over West Liberty while Iowa City High fell to Joliet Catholic Academy (IL) on the road.
