A black Maryland couple who’ve had the police repeatedly called on their loud parties say they’re being targeted because of their race, but critics staunchly disagree, and included among their critics are their neighbors, some of whom are also black.
“It has nothing to do with them being black,” neighbor Margaret Littlejohn, a black woman, told the Washington Post. “It has to do with them not being good neighbors.”

Why aren’t they good neighbors? Because their repeat parties featuring over 100+ people tend to be too loud and large.
Prince and Angela Floyd disagree and have filed a $3 million federal discrimination suit claiming their neighbors’ repeat calls to the police violated their rights and were essentially motivated by racism.
“Over a three-year period from June 2020 to June 2023, police logged 41 calls for service at the Floyds’ home, and officers showed up on their doorstep 24 times,” according to the Post.
“During that time, the Floyds said they hosted 11 parties for celebrations such as graduation, Father’s Day, Christmas, and a cousin’s outdoor wedding,” the Post notes.
This is all that’s known for certain. Everything else is disputed between the Floyds and their neighbors, including “the type of parties hosted at the estate, the frequency of those gatherings, and the noise levels.”
As part of their suit, the Floyds are also demanding a jury trial, automatic membership in the Calvert Manor Civic Association (they were previously denied membership), and damages from eight defendants, including Prince George’s County, a county police officer, the local civic association, and five of their neighbors.
Calvert Manor Civic Association President Dianne Wallace has claimed that the Floyds’ home is outside the membership area. In a separate statement, she called their lawsuit “frivolous,” describing it as “legal theater and a common tactic used to intimidate victims.”

The first dispute involved the graduation party for the Floyds’ daughter, who graduated in 2020 but was denied a typical graduation ceremony because of the pandemic.
“Their daughter invited friends and their families,” the Post notes. “The Floyds got a small stage for graduates to walk across before delivering a speech. The couple estimated they had about 50 to 70 people on their lawn, with chairs spread six feet apart. Then, the police showed up.”
Longtime local resident Annmarie Buckley told the Post she’d called the police at 11:00 pm because of all the noise.
“I don’t want to cause any issues for these people,” she said. “It’s just… I live two blocks over and I can hear the music inside my house.”
Unperturbed by the call and evidently unconcerned about how their neighbors’ felt, the Floyds kept hosting super-large parties, and their neighbors likewise kept complaining, including about the family’s guests parking on the neighborhood’s already narrow roads.
Then October of 2023 came around and things only got worse during a hearing with the county’s Nuisance Abatement Board.
One neighbor, Maria Femia, claimed that when she’d tried to speak to Prince about the traffic jams his family’s parties were creating, he got verbally abusive, bullied her, and even “tried to run me over at the mailbox and threaten me again with verbal statements.”
The Floyds have claimed Femia’s allegation is an “absolute fabrication and a lie.”
“Living across the road from the Floyds, I have to deal with the unpleasant, nasty behavior, the loud parties, the traffic, illegal fireworks, food trucks, the buses full of people coming to their property blocking the roads for their large events,” Femia testified during the hearing.
Angela Floyd meanwhile argued that the sound meter she uses on her cellphone showed her that the volume at her parties never exceeded the county’s maximum decibels rule.
“County policies show the maximum noise is 65 decibels from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 55 decibels from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m,” the Post notes. “At the hearing, Angela Floyd said she had never received citations indicating she violated the ordinance.”
The board ultimately ruled against the Floyds by determining that their home was a “neighborhood nuisance,” ordering them to stop all “nuisance activities,” and making them pay a $1,000 fine.
They weren’t happy about this and remain convinced it’s all about race.
Interestingly, their suit doesn’t name Littlejohn, who’s black, but does name her fiance, Thomas Cassidy, who’s white. She’d like to know why that is.
“Are they targeting me by going after my fiancé, who happens to be a white male, to make the narrative sound really good?” she asked the Post. “So it’s all evil white people against the Floyds because they’re black?”
It would appear so.
