1 dead, 2 missing in Old Saybrook boat crash: reports

One person is dead and two are missing after a boat crash in the Connecticut River Monday night, according to reports.

Nine people were on board a boat in Old Saybrook, 30 miles east of New Haven, Connecticut, when it crashed into a jetty at the mouth of the Connecticut River, near Harbor One Marina, according to NBC Connecticut and CNN.

The boat broke into pieces and the nine people onboard ended up in the water, reported CNN.

One body was recovered, but two people are still missing as of 1 a.m. local time. The three were not wearing life jackets at the time of the crash, reports said.

The search for those missing will resume Tuesday morning, reported NBC Connecticut. Multiple agencies are conducting the search, including a State Police Dive Unit and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter.

USA TODAY reached out the the Coast Guard and Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Others on board rescued

Six of the nine people onboard were rescued and taken to the hospital, according to NBC Connecticut. The condition of those rescued is unknown.
