Pennsylvania governor’s office apologizes for ‘mistaken’ WWE WrestleMania statement

Despite some confusion that was created this weekend, WWE WrestleMania won’t be returning to Philadelphia in 2026.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro created that confusion when, in a social media Q&A video, he listed WrestleMania among the events Philadelphia would be hosting in 2026 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States. The video has since been deleted, and a spokesperson for the governor issued a statement clarifying that WrestleMania 42 will not be held in Pennsylvania.

“This statement was mistaken, and we apologize for the confusion amid all the incredible events Pennsylvania is excited to host in 2026,” the statement said. “While WrestleMania won’t be here in ‘26, we look forward to continuing to work with WWE and wrestling fans all across our Commonwealth to bring more great events to PA in the future.”

Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia was the venue for WrestleMania 40 this April. Philly officials have said they would be thrilled to host the event again in the future.

WrestleMania 41 is taking place from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in April 2025. Beyond that, we know that a future WrestleMania will be held in Indianapolis — but the year has not been announced. WWE has also had discussions with the city of London about bringing WrestleMania to the United Kingdom at some point.
