As we prepare for a new high school sports season, USA Today Network sports writers in Ohio collaborated over the last month to select preseason All-Ohio teams for football, boys and girls soccer, and girls volleyball. We selected a 25-player team for each sport.
Today, we introduce the USA Today Network Preseason All-Ohio Boys Soccer Team, featuring our selection of the state’s top 25 players heading into the 2024 season.
1. Maddox Andrea, Hanoverton United
A member of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy, this senior forward had 46 goals, 11 assists and 10 hat tricks last fall for United, pushing his career high school totals to 118 goals, 35 assists and 21 hat tricks. Andrea earned his third consecutive first-team all-district honor and was first-team All-Ohio in Division III after making the second team as a freshman and sophomore. Andrea also was named “Mr. Youngstown” by the Youngstown District Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association.
2. Marty McLaughlin, Cleveland St. Ignatius
This senior midfielder, an Ohio State commit, was second-team All-Ohio and first-team all-Greater Cleveland last year, helping the Wildcats (17-3-3) win their fifth consecutive Division I state title and 13th state championship overall. For his career, he has seven goals and 13 assists.
3. Connor Wilkes, Cincinnati Indian Hill
The senior forward/midfielder had 16 goals and 20 assists for the Braves, who were 18-2-1 and reached a Division II regional semifinal. He was first-team all-district and All-Ohio, and an All-Great Lakes Region selection. He plays for Cincinnati United Premier ‘05 Gold, a 2022 USYS national champion.
4 (tie). Landon Haas, Tipp City Tippecanoe
This senior midfielder had 33 goals and 25 assists last year, helping the Red Devils go 22-1-1 and win the Division II state title. Haas scored once in Tippecanoe’s 2-1 win over Richfield Revere in the championship game. He was second-team All-Ohio, first-team all-district and first-team all-Miami Valley League. Haas owns program records for points in a season (58), career points (112) and career assists (60).
4 (tie). Justis Olorunto, Cleveland St. Ignatius
This senior Ohio State commit was a second-team All-Ohio and first-team all-Greater Cleveland selection last season, leading a defense that helped St. Ignatius win its fifth consecutive Division I state championship. The Wildcats defeated Cincinnati Moeller 2-1 (5-4 penalty kicks), handing the Crusaders their only loss of the season. St. Ignatius allowed 22 goals last fall and had 10 shutouts.
6. AJ Catlett, Richfield Revere
The senior midfielder earned first-team All-Ohio in helping Revere to a Division II state runner-up finish. He had 11 goals and a team-high 27 assists, making him second on the team in scoring behind Division II Player of the Year Dylan Halm. Catlett helped lead the Minutemen to their fourth consecutive district championship. He also was named to the United Soccer Coaches Association All-Region team.
7. Grant Keilin, Beachwood
The senior midfielder delivered a record-setting 2023 season. Keilin set program records for goals (37) and assists (18), and he also scored in a program-record 11 consecutive games. He was first-team All-Ohio in Division III as Beachwood went 19-3, losing to eventual state champion Willoughby Andrews Osborne in a regional final. The 19 wins are the most in program history. Keilin also earned two Player of the Year honors: Division III Greater Cleveland and Chagrin Valley Conference-Metro.
8 (tie). Brady Catanzarite, Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit
A Top Drawer Soccer three-star recruit, this senior midfielder/forward earned Crown Conference Player of the Year in 2023 after recording a team-best nine goals and 17 assists. With his club team in the offseason, he totaled 21 goals and 24 assists in 31 games.
8 (tie). Sam Robledo, Hudson
This senior forward had 21 goals and 11 assists last fall, earning first-team All-Ohio and leading Hudson to its fifth consecutive district title. Robledo has 34 goals and 20 assists for his career and has scored on 51.5% of his career shots on goal (34 of 66). He also was named to the United Soccer Coaches Association All-Region team last year.
10. Shaun Dickerson, Liberty Township Lakota East
The senior midfielder was the Thunderhawks’ leading scorer last season with 13 goals and seven assists, helping the team finish second in the Greater Miami Conference. He was second-team All-Ohio, first-team all-conference and first-team all-district. He verbally committed this summer to Northern Kentucky.
11. Brady Benisek, Gates Mills Gilmour Academy
Benisek, a senior goalkeeper, was second-team All-Ohio and first-team all-Greater Cleveland last year after making 105 saves and recording nine shutouts. He allowed 23 goals as Gilmour went 7-6-5. “His expertise is not only saving goals … but it is his communication, distribution of the ball and accuracy with punting and long-range goal kicks,” coach Joe Ciuni said. “Brady owns the box and he makes up for a lot of sins in the back.”
12. Parker Galloway, St. Clairsville
The junior midfielder delivered a 41-goal, 12-assist performance as a sophomore. He was second-team All-Ohio, first-team all-Eastern District and first-team All-Ohio Valley Athletic Conference.
13. Everett Rinaldi, Cincinnati Seven Hills
The senior midfielder had 24 goals and 23 assists for the Stingers, who finished 18-3. He was named first-team all-district and second-team All-Ohio and was also an All-Great Lakes Region pick. He has 38 career goals and 39 assists. He plays for Ohio Elite ECNL ’06.
14. Garrett Nealis, Findlay Liberty-Benton
The senior midfielder will be trying for his third consecutive Player of the Year honor in the North Central Ohio Soccer Association. Nealis also was second-team All-Ohio and first-team all-Northwest District in Division III last season after producing 23 goals and a program-record 19 assists. For his career, he has 48 goals and a program-record 38 assists.
15. Harley Forkins, Mentor Lake Catholic
The senior midfielder/forward had 28 goals and 16 assists last season, helping to lead his team to the state semifinals, where it lost to Revere. Forkins, who was first-team all-Greater Cleveland, has 44 goals and 22 assists the past two seasons. He also kicks for the football team, going 38 of 39 on extra points and 3 of 5 on field goals.
16. Ryan Sullivan, St. Charles
A junior midfielder who made his mark largely as a defender, Sullivan was a linchpin in St. Charles’ first regional championship since 2016. He had eight goals and six assists and was named first-team all-Central Catholic League and all-district and second-team All-Ohio in Division I. The Cardinals (11-8-2) fell to top-ranked Moeller 1-0 in a state semifinal.
17. Cameron Parker, Zanesville Maysville
The senior was named the 2023 Muskingum Valley League Midfielder of the Year and league Co-Player of the Year. Additionally, he was second-team All-Ohio. He is an attacking midfielder with exceptional vision and versatility and one of the most well-rounded players to come out of southeast Ohio in years. During the 2023 season, Parker scored 26 goals and tallied 25 assists. He has also been a critical part of Maysville advancing to a district final in two of the past three seasons.
18. Angelo Ginocchi, Watterson
The senior midfielder is the top returning player for an Eagles team seeking to build on last year’s Division II regional championship and 11-6-4 finish. Ginocchi had 13 goals and 11 assists as a junior and was named first-team all-Central Catholic League and all-district.
19. Sawyer Wilbanks Olentangy
A Bowling Green commit, the senior midfielder assisted 12 goals and scored three of his own for the Division I Central District finalist Braves (16-2-2), who were ranked fourth in the final state poll.
20. Isaac Eyre, Lynchburg-Clay
Eyre, a senior goalkeeper, delivered a strong 2023 season in which he was co-Player of the Year in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, first-team all-Southeast District and second-team All-Ohio in Division III. Eyre made 116 saves and allowed 22 goals in 19 games. He surrendered only one goal in seven SHAC games.
21. Shawn Seymour, Dayton Carroll
This senior forward led Carroll to a Division II district runner-up finish and 16-4-1 record in 2023, tallying 29 goals and nine assists to push his career totals to 52 goals and 22 assists. He was second-team All-Ohio and earned first-team honors for the Miami Valley district and Greater Catholic League-Coed.
22. Elijah Jurisch, Mantua Crestwood
This senior midfielder has done it all for the Red Devils. He was their leading facilitator as a sophomore, racking up 23 assists with 12 goals. When Crestwood graduated its leading scorer from 2022, Jurisch stepped up, scoring 34 goals last fall. He also had nine assists. Through three years, Jurisch has 51 goals and 34 assists. He was last season’s Portage County Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year and second-team All-Ohio.
23. Eli Feller, Fairbanks
A senior forward, Feller had 24 goals last year for the Division III district finalist Panthers (11-7-3). The second-team All-Ohio honoree enters his senior season with 56 goals and 12 assists in his career.
24. Jake Nations, Richfield Revere
Nations recorded 12 shutouts as a junior, helping Revere finish as the Division II state runner-up with a 19-1-2 record. He was second-team All-Greater Akron for a team that won its fourth consecutive district title. He allowed only three postseason goals and gave up one goal or fewer in 18 of 22 games, making 56 saves with a 0.70 goals-against average.
25. Max Murphy, Cincinnati Mariemont
The senior forward was second-team All-Ohio in Division III after leading the Warriors with 20 goals and 11 assists. He was an all-district selection and helped Mariemont to a 14-5-2 record. He also plays for Cincinnati United Premier.
