The Raiders went on the road and held on for victory at Martin County to move to 2-0 in the Omar Haugabook era.

Glades Central led 20-0 at halftime.

The King’s Academy football team spent the entire summer preparing for a second half like it had Friday night.

Going with a hurry-up offense, the Lions scored the first three times they had the ball and then effectively ran out the clock to secure a 28-21 victory over Fort Pierce Westwood at Calvin Triplett Field at Lawnwood Stadium.

“We’re in great shape,” King’s Academy quarterback Joe Dailey said. “We can really play in the second half: run it, pass it. We did a great job, the O-line especially.”

When King’s Academy (2-0) finally got the ball in the second half, it went to work without a huddle.

“We always try to move fast,” Dailey said. “We tried to see what was successful, and we saw they were a little tired.”

Royal Palm Beach 59, John I. Leonard 19

For visiting John I. Leonard, Friday night proved to be a familiar scenario. For Royal Palm Beach, it was a welcome alternative to last week’s nail-biting, come-from-behind 28-27 win in its opener at Port St. Lucie.

“I’m anxious to see how we respond from being down 21-0 last week,” said third-year Royal Palm Beach head coach Chuck Kenyon before the game, “and then keeping our composure and battling back.”

The Wildcats (2-0) responded by running roughshod over the young and overmatched Lancers (0-2) in a 59-19 blowout.

“We have some sophomores, and even a couple freshmen who are rotating and playing,” said fourth-year Lancers head coach Austin Van Es. “There’s a lot of new kids. Even for a lot of the juniors, it’s their first time getting in on varsity.”

LANTANA – Two things happened when Hector Clavijo took over as Santaluces High’s head football coach in 2022.

First, he started winning, no small feat considering the Chiefs were coming off a 1-8 season and were among the county’s weakest programs. Second, he installed high-octane offenses featuring gunslingers at quarterback and skill players all over the field, routinely scoring in the 30s and 40s.

Two games into the 2024 season, the Chiefs are still winning, but they’re doing it with defense.

Aided by a goal-line stand, Santaluces rallied from a 7-6 fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Palm Beach Gardens 20-13 in a defensive slugfest Friday night.

Spanish River 27, Seminole Ridge 23

Champ Smith and Blake Wallace connected for two fourth-quarter touchdowns in a comeback victory over the Hawks.

In a game that saw both teams battered — both Smith and Seminole Ridge’s Ty Jackson suffered injuries — it was Spanish River that came out on top in a roller-coaster, flag-filled game.

Somerset-Canyons 27, Somerset Academy 21 (OT)

Senior quarterback Jayden Harrington powered through the defense and dove into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown in overtime to lift the Cougars to their first victory of the 2024 season.

Forest Hill ran the football better during the first half, which included touchdowns runs of eight yards by running back Daquan Anderson, 50 yards by quarterback Remington Rossow, and 64 yards by running back Jamarkus Emerson.

The game was suspended at halftime due to lightning. It will be resumed on Sept. 30.

Jupiter 38, Park Vista 6

Maybe it’s time to stop referring to the Jupiter Warriors as a surprise team.

Maybe it’s time to call them what they’ve been the past two seasons – one of the best high school teams in Palm Beach County.

The Warriors turned in their second straight dominating performance Thursday night, scoring on offense, defense and special teams in a 38-6 victory over Park Vista. That followed a season-opening 27-0 rout of Dwyer.

Boca Raton Christian 26, SmartEn Academy 6West Boca Raton 28, Palm Beach Central 7

West Boca found the end zone three times in the first half of Thursday’s 28-7 demolition of Palm Beach Central.

All were rushing scores. None were by star running back Javian Mallory.

Still, one Mallory proved enough for a Bulls squad that looked more motivated, more polished, and more poised than the home-team Broncos.

West Boca made a statement last week, but this week can be described only as an exclamation point.
