Kansas State sophomore Avery Johnson (2) will make his first home start at quarterback Saturday when the Wildcats open the 2024 season against Tennessee-Martin at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

MANHATTAN — Kansas State football’s 2024 regular season kicks off Saturday night with a home game against Tennessee-Martin at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

K-State is again one of the favorites in the Big 12 after posting a 9-4 overall record last year. The Wildcats fell short of a return trip to the conference championship game, tying for fourth in the league at 6-3, but came back to cap the season with a 28-19 Pop-Tarts Bowl victory over North Carolina State.

The Wildcats were picked second behind conference newcomer Utah in a Big 12 preseason media poll. For the second straight year they start the season ranked in both national polls, coming in at No. 17 in the US LBM Coaches Top 25 and No. 18 in the Associated Press.

They face a UT-Martin team that finished at 8-3 last year and claimed its third straight league championship in the inaugural Big South-Ohio Valley Conference season. The Skyhawks received votes in the FCS preseason rankings.
