Previewing Texas and Colorado State as 2024 football season opens
The American-Statesman’s Danny Davis, Cedric Golden and Thomas Jones preview UT’s game against Colorado State and answer a Texas trivia question.
Texas football is back.
The Longhorns open up the 2024-25 season at Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium against Colorado State. Coming off of a College Football Playoff appearance, Texas is ranked No. 4 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Whether or not they deserve that ranking will be decided throughout the course of the season, but the opener will set the tone.
Texas is heavily favored. However, Georgia Tech’s recent upset over No. 10 ranked Florida State is still fresh in fans’ minds. In Monday’s press conference, coach Steve Sarkisian mentioned that the Rams’ record in 2023 does not properly reflect the level that they played at.
“I know that they were 5-7 last year, but there was a lot of close games that could have went either way,” Sarkisian said.
