What’s open and closed in Central Illinois for Labor Day

CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Labor Day is upon us, and many places are closed in recognition of the day.

For the federal holiday recognizing the labor movement and the economic and social victories workers have secured, most government employees and students are off.

IDOT reopening lanes in construction zones for Labor Day

School districts across Central Illinois, including Champaign, Danville, Decatur, Springfield and Urbana, are all closed and students and staff have the day off. Additionally, no classes will be held at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or Springfield, or Millikin University.

All federal buildings and courts are closed, as well as Sangamon, Macon, Champaign and County buildings. Buses with the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District and the Sangamon County Mass Transit District will not run on that day.

Packages will also not be delivered on the day. The United States Postal Service recognizes Labor Day as one of its 11 federal holidays and is closed.

Banks are also closed for the day.

Several businesses and stores will remain open for the day, including most big chains. One corporate store closing for the day in recognition is Costco.
