How to Watch Oregon football’s season opener against Idaho

With the Oregon Ducks 2024 season opener just days away, our excitement seems to be growing by the minute. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Oregon in action, and the Ducks team we’ll be watching this year looks much different than the 2023 team.

With all the buzz surrounding the 2024 Ducks, we can expect to see a great many Oregon games televised nationally on major networks this season. This weekend, the Ducks aren’t facing a premier opponent (the Idaho Vandals), so the game is being shown on the Big Ten Network.

That wasn’t a problem until a few days ago, when it was discovered Comcast/Xfinity would black out the Big Ten Network for the four newest Big Ten schools (Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA) in many markets. Comcast reportedly rejected the Big Ten Network’s territory expansion offer, which has led to the blackouts.

This is the first game of the season, so even though the Vandals are far from Oregon’s toughest opponent, don’t expect the Ducks to be firing on all cylinders yet. Oregon should still handle Idaho, but there are kinks that need to be worked out at the beginning of every season. That is why it’s good Oregon can ease into its season with a lesser opponent in Week 1. This game will also afford us the opportunity to check out Oregon’s new talent for the first time, including Dillon Gabriel, Evan Stewart, Jabbar Muhammad and many others.

A win is a win, but perhaps more importantly, a loss is a loss. The Oregon Ducks have lofty expectations placed on them this season, and anything less than an undefeated or one-loss season could be considered a failure, so it’s best to get in the habit of winning early on. Oregon isn’t in much danger of losing to Idaho, but that shouldn’t change how it approaches this game. The Ducks will use this game to get themselves fully into playing shape, so that next week against Boise State — a dangerous team — they’ll be ready.
