Incoming UConn freshman Sarah Strong leads Team USA to gold in FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup

(WFSB) – Incoming UConn freshman Sarah Strong is already making strides on the court for her country.

She led Team USA to the gold medal at the 2024 FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup in Hungary.

The team went 7-0 in the tournament and beat Japan on Friday for the gold medal. Strong was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

This marks her third straight gold medal at the 3×3 U18 World Cup as well as the sixth consecutive and eighth overall for Team USA women.

Outside of a 21-19 win in the title game, the smallest margin of victory for the team was six points.

Strong was the #1 ranked recruit in the 2024 class, being named the 2024 Naismith High School Player of the Year. She also was selected as a McDonald’s, Naismith, SLAM and Jordan Brand All-American.

In addition, she earned North Carolina Miss Basketball and Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year honors for the second straight season.
