Long-range experts forecast warm fall for the United States
The transition to autumn will be a slow one for most of the country this year, with warm temperatures likely to continue deep into fall.
If you love apple picking and you live in Massachusetts, you’re in luck. An apple orchard in Amesbury was just ranked third on Yelp’s list of 25 apple orchards to visit.
Cider Hill Farm is a family-owned farm spanning 145 acres in the historic town of Amesbury. With a wide selection of fruits to pick yourself, a farmhouse with fresh goods and gifts, estate grown hard cider and various activities for the whole family, Cider Hill has something for everyone to enjoy.
This year, Cider Hill was ranked the No. 3 apple picking spot to visit in the United States, the highest ranking place in all of New England. Read below for everything this farm has to offer.
Apple picking at Cider Hill Farm
Cider Hill Farm has seasonal fruits and flowers available for picking, including strawberries, peaches and tulips. With five beautiful orchards, 10,000 fruit trees and over 60 types of different apples, this farm is sure to provide a great apple picking experience.
Tickets, which go live 48-72 hours in advance, must be purchased to enter any of the picking fields. For apple picking, prices are $12 for a half-peck with up to two pickers, $24 for one peck with up to four pickers and $40 for a half bushel with up to six pickers.
What else does Cider Hill Farm offer?
Farm Store
When you’re done picking apples, you can head over to the farm store, which offers a variety of goods including fresh honey, homemade jam and autumn decorations like gourds, hay bales, scarecrows and corn husks. Cider Hill’s farm store also offers prepared foods and snacks to keep the whole family fed, as well as delicious fall desserts like pumpkin whoopie pies and cider donuts.
Food
If you’re looking for a hot meal, the farm’s food truck, the Pitchfork, is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The menu includes sandwiches, salads, wraps, hot dogs and fresh squeezed lemonade. The nearby drink stand, open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, offers hot cider, cider slushies and warm cider donuts.
Cider Bar
Adults can relax at the outdoor hard cider bar from 2:30-5:30 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and 12-4 p.m. on Sunday during weekends in September and October. Fresh-pressed cider blends made on site at Cider Hill Cellars are available on tap, featuring flavors such as raspberry harvest and bourbon barrel aged winter. Non-alcoholic options are also available.
Cider Hill Cellars drinks can also be purchased in can form at the farm store.
Live music
Cider Hill Farm hosts free family-friendly live music by local musicians to enjoy with your donuts and cider. The music stage is located on the main lawn and takes place from 2:30-5:30 p.m. on Friday and 12-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Kids activities
Kids can have fun playing in a giant sandbox, riding on a horse swing, feeding chickens, visiting goats and exploring the farm on tricycles.
Other events

When and where to visit Cider Hill Farm
Picking is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily when crops are available, and the farm closes at 6 p.m. The apple picking season is expected to start in late August and end Oct.14, but up-to-date information about which fruits are available for picking should be checked here before visiting.
