Ryan Melton has a passion for rural Iowa, clean water and public schools

Here in Ames your District 4 Representative is Randy Feenstra.

I’m not surprised if you didn’t know that. He doesn’t talk to constituents, and he follows the national party establishment and corporate donors. But some people are tired of that, including his primary competitor, Kevin Virgil,  who still has questions.

“What is the linkage between glyphosate herbicides and pesticides, and our sky-high cancer rates? (My brother has had months of chemo for this one.)Why are our politicians so eager to sell out our constitutional rights for a CO2 pipeline when a recent poll showed that 78% of Iowans oppose it?Why are our leaders so beholden to corporate donors instead of their constituents?”

Since Representative Feenstra isn’t bothered with these questions, his fellow Republican, Kevin Virgil, has endorsed the Democrat running against Feenstra, Ryan Melton. Ryan Melton’s bid for the 4th district is a brave one. District 4 runs all the way up to Minnesota and gerrymanders in Ames and Marshalltown. Feenstra has millions in PAC money. Ryan has less than $100,000. and doesn’t take PAC money. Republicans outnumber Democrats in District Four, 2 to 1, but Ryan Melton is smart and passionate about rural Iowa. When he’s not at work at Nationwide Insurance in Nevada, he drives his 2014 Toyota Corolla around District 4 and meets with Republicans and Democrats alike. He finds his passion for rural Iowa, clean water, and public schools is what most Iowans, Democrats and Republicans in District 4, care about.

Republican Kevin Virgil, primary opponent of Randy Feenstra, doesn’t agree with all of Melton’s policies and he’s still going to vote for Trump, but he thinks that having a Republican governor and Republican majority lawmakers in Iowa has resulted in the following:

·         “Iowa’s K-12 education system has dropped from #1 among all 50 states when I was a student in the 1980s, to #24 today (source: USNWR)

·         We have the second highest rate of cancer diagnoses in all 50 states, and we are the ONLY state where cancer rates are rising

·         We have become one of the crossroads of human trafficking in the US

·         We are the #9 state in % of children living below the poverty line

·         We are in the bottom 10% for mental health facilities and care

·         Family farms are disappearing

·         Small hog farms (like the one I grew up in) have nearly disappeared and the largest pork-producing business in this state is now controlled by the Chinese Communist Party”

(Kevin Virgil’s words, not mine)

Ryan Melton is a concerned citizen, not a politician. Just what the founding fathers had in mind.
