Bahamian Kraschanda Oliver is set to take to the stage at the USA Powerlifting Raw National Championships, and she will be joined by two other Bahamians, as they aim to put their strength and determination to task in hopes of coming out with some top performances.
The event will be held September 5-8 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
Oliver, competing in the fiercely competitive 80 kilogram (kg) category, is not only representing herself but carries the pride of her nation alongside fellow Bahamian athletes Deangelo Griffin and Dominique Munroe, both competing in the 140 kg class.
For Oliver, powerlifting was a natural extension of her background as a certified personal trainer which she has been engaged in for the past seven years.
“Fitness and athleticism are innate to me,” she shares. Her competitive spirit found a new challenge in powerlifting, and representing The Bahamas on such a prestigious platform early in her career is a testament to her unwavering dedication. “I’m elated to walk on to the squat, deadlift, and bench press platform as a flag bearer for my country.”
Training for such a high-level competition demands relentless commitment. Despite the physical and mental exhaustion, Oliver’s determination never wavered.
“I understand the goal, so I tend to do what’s necessary to achieve the outcome,” she explained.
As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated sport, she feels challenged but has experienced the supportive and inclusive nature of the powerlifting community. She hopes to inspire other young women in The Bahamas and beyond to embrace strength sports without fear of stigma. “You can still be pretty, cute, and feminine in the sport, so don’t be discouraged,” she said.
Oliver’s goals extend beyond this single event, viewing each competition as a stepping stone toward greater achievements, including earning a pro card. “I will introduce the world to Kraschanda Oliver,” she declared. Her journey is not just about personal triumph but also a testament to her faith and resilience, embodying the belief that, “when the time is right, the Lord will make it happen” (Isaiah 60:22).
As the USA Powerlifting Raw Nationals take place, Oliver and her teammates are poised to make their mark, showcasing the strength and spirit of The Bahamas on an international stage.
