Flavor Flav, the iconic hype man from Public Enemy, has officially thrown his hat in the ring to become one of the USA’s torchbearers for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Flav made the announcement during the August 28 episode of iHeart’s Politickin podcast, hosted by California Governor Gavin Newsom, former NFL star Marshawn Lynch, and agent Doug Hendrickson.
“I got a feeling I might be one of them,” Flav teased on the podcast. “I put my bid in already. I said, ‘If Snoop can carry the torch in Paris—come on, man—Flav can carry that bad boy in L.A.’” Flav also took a moment to praise Snoop Dogg, who carried the Olympic torch in Paris during the 2024 Games, saying, “He rocked. Even though they did pay him a half-a-million a day, Snoop got a nice payday out there, but besides the payday, he did a good job.”
Flav’s Olympic dreams don’t stop at torch-bearing; the Long Island native also expressed his desire to get his hands on one of Snoop Dogg’s custom Olympic pins, quipping, “I want one of them pins too. He got his own Olympic pin. I’m gonna try to get me one of them.”
Flavor Flav’s involvement with the Olympics isn’t new. During the 2024 Games, he sponsored the U.S. Women’s Water Polo team, pledged $1,000 and a cruise, and even helped cover rent costs for discus thrower Veronica Fraley. He also offered gymnast Jordan Chiles an oversized bedazzled bronze clock in place of the medal she lost over a technicality.
As the 2028 Olympics approach, it seems Flavor Flav is ready to take his Olympic spirit to the next level, potentially lighting up L.A. as an official torchbearer.
