ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) — The PPL Foundation announced that it has awarded $1 million in grant funding to more than 50 nonprofit organizations across central and eastern Pennsylvania.
According to the PPL Foundation, the $1 million in grant funding was awarded to 53 nonprofit organizations working to build stronger communities in eastern and central Pennsylvania.

Specifically, the foundation’s latest investments through the Empowering Communities Grants are designed to support programs that focus on environmental stewardship and education as well as economic and workforce development initiatives.
“Whether it’s supporting the development of small businesses, preserving and protecting our local environment or helping residents explore viable career opportunities, there are many nonprofit organizations working to better the lives of people who call our region home,” Lissette Santana, president of the PPL Foundation said. “The PPL Foundation is proud to support the efforts of the organizations that help make our communities safe, strong and sustainable.”

Moving forward, the PPL Foundation’s next round of grants, named Energizing Education, will support equitable and engaging high-quality educational opportunities for students.

According to the PPL Foundation, they expect to award nearly $2 million in grants this year to support the foundation’s main focus areas, which include: education; diversity, equity and inclusion; and sustainable communities.
