Vietnam War veterans honored in ceremony at Maine-Endwell High School

ENDWELL (WBNG) — Vietnam War veterans were honored for their service Wednesday morning.

Representative Marc Molinaro of the 19th Congressional District pinned them on behalf of the United States Congress. The ceremony was held at Maine-Endwell High School in Endwell.

Molinaro said Wednesday’s ceremony was a way to give the veterans their long-overdue recognition.

“We are and can always be the greatest republic the sun has ever shined upon,” Molinaro said. “To the men and women we honored today: Thank you for your service, thank you for your sacrifice and welcome home.”

Retired Army Major General Pete Lennon was at the ceremony. He is also the current New Berlin Mayor.

“Thank you for your commitment to this mission,” Lennon told the veterans. “To your teammates and to the country whose uniform you so proudly wore, however you phrase it, you are worthy of great recognition.”

2 million men and women went to Vietnam to serve. More than 58,000 were killed in the conflict.
