Where to draft Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco

The Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco was selected in the 7th round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Rutgers, and in 2 seasons has established himself as the lead back in the highly potent Kansas City offense. He touched the ball 250 times last season for over 1,100 total yards from scrimmage. Below, we look at Isiah Pacheco’s 2024 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Entering 2024, RB Jerick McKinnon remains unsigned, giving Pacheco a strong RB1 ceiling similar to his 7 games without McKinnon last season. The Chiefs offense returns most of its offensive line, but durability is a concern for Pacheco, who underwent multiple surgeries after the 2022 season. Despite injury risks, Kansas City’s offense under Andy Reid and QB Patrick Mahomes consistently ranks among the top in total RB PPR points, making Pacheco a valuable fantasy asset.

Pacheco’s 23.67 ADP in redraft leagues puts him in the range of the 2nd to 3rd round depending on the size of the league. His ADP is the best on the Chiefs, just ahead of Mahomes (26.71) and TE Travis Kelce (28.89).

Among running backs, Pacheco’s ADP ranks 10th at the position, just behind Baltimore’s Derrick Henry (21.56) and Jacksonville’s Travis Etienne (19.54), and slightly ahead of Miami’s De’Von Achane (27.84) and Tampa Bay’s Rachaad White (31.20).

Where should you draft Pacheco?

Pacheco enters the upcoming season as a potential fantasy football gem, especially with McKinnon unsigned. Last season, Pacheco ranked 14th among running backs in PPR and non-PPR formats. His performance skyrocketed in the 7 games without McKinnon, posting numbers that would have ranked him 3rd at his position.

Currently, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (176.18 ADP) is Kansas City’s No. 2 RB, further solidifying Pacheco’s potential for RB1 production in the high-powered Chiefs offense.

The biggest question mark surrounding Pacheco is his durability. After undergoing surgeries for his hand and shoulder post-2022, Pacheco re-injured his shoulder last season, missed 2 games, and had a clean-up procedure. He also suffered a concussion late in the year. These injury concerns make him a bit of a risky pick.

That said, Pacheco’s upside remains undeniable. As the primary back for one of the league’s top offenses, he has significant fantasy potential, particularly in PPR leagues. Targeting Pacheco anywhere in Round 3 or beyond could be a great value pick, especially if McKinnon remains unsigned and Pacheco stays healthy. He’s a player with strong RB1 upside and is worth considering in your draft.
