The Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport has again been nominated as one of the nation’s best small airports in the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
Final rankings will be determined in public voting, which closes on Sept. 23. The ROC airport ranked 10th a year ago.
“Once again our hometown airport is being recognized for this national competition thanks to its commitment to providing the highest quality passenger experience in the industry,” Monroe County Executive Adam Bello said in a news release. “Our continued investment in the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport has made it a first-class airport that serves as the gateway to the world for residents of Monroe County and the Finger Lakes.”
More than 2.6 million passengers traveled through the airport in 2023. Since the start of 2024, nonstop service has been added to Las Vegas on Southwest Airlines; Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Spirit Airlines; and Greenville/Spartanburg, S.C., Orlando/Lakeland, Fla., and Charlotte/Concord, N.C., on Avelo Airlines.
Amenities include a free video arcade and kids play area in partnership with The Strong Museum of Play, free Wi-Fi from Greenlight Networks, mobile devise charging outlets throughout the airport, P Hearing Loops for deaf or hard of hearing guests, and an Aria Network membership to improve access for blind and low vision passengers.
