$4.1-Million Bugatti Tourbillon Tours California. Next Stop: Europe!

Bugatti Tourbillon

The 2024 Monterey Car Week was filled with premieres, and Bugatti couldn’t have missed this event. Thus, the Molsheim company took the Tourbillon to California, and after it ended, the rare $4.1-million beast embarked on a journey across the state.
This represented the model’s first official drive on U.S. soil, and it explored Los Angeles and Malibu, stopping at various points along the way. It took on part of the Pacific Coast Highway before arriving in Beverly Hills for a quick stop at the brand’s dealership, where it wowed customers and enthusiasts.

Subsequent to its L.A. tour, during which it posed for the camera several times, the Bugatti Tourbillon is now on its way to the Old Continent. It will return to France, where it’s set to attend the Chantilly Arts et Elegance Richard Mille in September, which is deemed “the most elegant automotive competition.”

“The Tourbillon already managed to illuminate the exciting Monterey Car Week, but during its trip across Southern California, the Bugatti Tourbillion has captured the hearts of enthusiasts throughout the U.S.,” said Bugatti’s Managing Director, Hendrik Malinowks. “As we resume the Tourbillon’s expedition across Europe, we will continue to offer Bugatti customers and fans around the world the chance to witness the future of hyper sports cars firsthand.”

But what exactly is the Bugatti Tourbillion? Well, a brand-new hypercar that has taken the French automaker, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, into the electrification era. You see, unlike the Chiron and Veyron and their derivatives, it no longer features an 8.0L quad-turbo W16 engine. Instead, it comes with an 8.3-liter V16 engine. The lump was designed by Cosworth, and it’s naturally aspirated. Rimac’s three-motor setup assists the V16, contributing to an impressive amount of power.

According to the official specs, the internal combustion unit, which can scream its lungs out to 9,000 rpm, and the three electric motors churn out a total of 1,775 horsepower (1,800 ps/1,324 kW). This represents 197 horsepower (200 ps/147 kW) more than Bugatti’s demised Chiron Super Sport, enabling 0-62 mph (100 kph) in two seconds flat. Thus, it’s four-tenths faster than the Chiron Super Sport. The Tourbillon needs less than 25 seconds to push to 248 mph (400 kph).

But what about the top speed? That would be 277 miles per hour or 445 kilometers per hour, in Bugatti’s own words. Moreover, unlike its modern-day predecessors, namely the Chiron and the Veyron, the all-new Bugatti Tourbillon can also drive on electric power alone, with its all-quiet range being rated at 37 miles (60 km). That’s a decent number from a car designed to devour miles across intercontinental journeys. As for the starting price, you are looking at the equivalent of $4.1 million, as mentioned above.
