12-year-old Freddie Powell was in Illinois last month competing in the national Miss Amazing pageant. The organization holds self-esteem building events for girls and young women with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Freddie says her favorite thing about it is showcasing her favorite interest – protecting endangered animals. She hopes the publicity surrounding her win leads people to focus on people’s strengths instead of their weaknesses.
