The U.S. version of Volkswagen’s electrified classic Type 2 van is priced and ready for its North American arrival later this year. The 2025 ID. Buzz is a two-tone seven-seat minivan with as much as 234 miles of range on a single charge. It was first revealed in 2023 to much fanfare.
Last week the all-electric van—the first electric minivan—revealed its pricing plan for the U.S. version after the European release with a shorter wheelbase.
There’s different pricing (which doesn’t include a $1,550 destination fee) for each of the three trims available at launch:
This is the base with rear-wheel drive and 234 miles of range. It features the a second-row bench for seven passengers.
Pro S Plus: $63,495 (RWD) or $67,995 (AWD)
The mid-trim version with either rear- or all-wheel drive options offers a panoramic electrochromic smart glass roof ($1,495) and optional captain chairs in the back with seating for six. With AWD versions, the range drops to 231 miles.
1st Edition: $65,495 (RWD) or $69,995 (AWD)
Available only at launch, the special edition features two-tone paint and the Dune interior with RWD bench seating or AWD captain chairs. The smart glass roof is included along with the Harman Kardon sound system and 1st Edition badging.
Looking at other minivans, the ID. Buzz is fairly high to start—but the only other electrified option is the plug-in hybrid Chrysler Pacifica with only 32 miles of pure electric range. The Chrysler with a battery is about $52,000 to start. Other non-electric minivans include the Honda Odyssey starting around $38,000, Kia Carnival around $34,000 and the Toyota Sienna ($38,000). The Pacifica hybrid qualifies for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits. The Buzz is produced in Germany and does not qualify based on its production location.
The Copper interior is exclusive to North American models of the electric VW ID. Buzz.

The U.S. pricing was expected to be in this range, but still dampens some of the excitement around the first electric minivan. With the high starting price and ineligibility for federal subsidies, the e-van is less accessible to families and more budget-conscious van buyers.

With the pricing announcement VW shared two new interior layouts for the North American models: Copper and Moonlight. The inside looks join the lighter, more “coastal” Dune interior which was revealed at the ID. Buzz global premiere in 2023. Copper is a brown leatherette with yellow piping and washed-wood dash. Moonlight is darker with dark brown leatherette and white piping and a dark wood dash.
Reservations have not yet opened for the Buzz, but interested car buyers can sign up for Volkswagen updates about the e-van’s imminent arrival.
