Can’t Wait For Saturday | Colorado creates an unnecessary mess by banning reporter’s questions

Aug. 26—***

So, let me get this straight: Deion Sanders, who played football at an elite level and took some hard shots, can’t handle critical comments from a Denver columnist?

Dude — sorry, Prime Dude — that is part of the columnist’s job. You refusing to answer questions from him makes you look like, well, a baby.

I have had my share of run-ins with coaches during 35 years covering Illinois football. Thankfully, most of them were in private. That made it easier to come to an understanding.

Important to point out that reporters can be a bit on the stubborn side. Not always. But sometimes.

Colorado made a mistake by taking the beef public.

The Denver Post, columnist Sean Keller’s employer, backed him and disputed the justification the school gave for the ban.

Keeler will be allowed to attend Colorado games. And other reporters from the Denver Post are welcomed to ask Sanders questions.

Meanwhile, as folks in Boulder are getting worked up about the incident, the Buffs face an important game Thursday against FCS power North Dakota State. Some think the Bison can beat Colorado.

Perhaps Sanders is using the situation to help motivate his team. “See,” he can say “everybody is against us.” If it works, all good. If Colorado falls to NDSU, not so much.
