‘Arkansas Stop the Violence’ recognizes communtiy advocates in the state

(Little Rock, KATV) — When it comes to those who are working to decrease the number of homicides across the state, the Arkansas Stop The Violence organization is one of the main advocates.

They hosted their annual awards service, highlighting members of the community who also advocate daily for safety.

Each year, Arkansas Stop The Violence takes time to honor those who make our communities a better place and help stop the violence.

“And push it. And push it. We need to just push it. Nonviolence. We need to daily just on a daily basis through every community,”Arkansas Stop The Violence, Founder, Reverend Benny Johnson said.

Arkansas Stop The Violence has worked for years to spread the message of ending senseless killings, especially when it comes to guns, with the help of city leaders, pastors, and community members all coming to stand in solidarity with the message of unity.

“You know if we come together collectively, we can put a big dent in this. It just goes to show that we have some people that are concerned about our community and who want to do some things to help our kids,” Johnson said.

These awards help give recognition to the difference makers among us with titles like Pastor of the Year, Peace Maker of the Year, Police Officer of the Year, and Man of the Year, which was awarded to youth athletic coordinator Tye Forte.

“To me it’s very important. I don’t do it for the awards. I just do it because I love it and I want to save the kids and I want to help the kids and I want to help the community. And it’s just a passion of mine. I really enjoy doing it and I just thank god for giving me the opportunity to do it and touch some lives while I’m doing it as well,” Forte said.

He, like the others who received awards, is actively doing hos part within our communities to meet people where they are and help solve problems from the root.

“The community is now. It’s kind of crazy out here, so I just want to be the peace in the community and maybe just the little bit do, do can help a lot with the kids and the community as well,” Forte said.

“When you lose a loved one to senseless violence it’s just hard on that family and it hurts my heart,” Johnson said.

Everyone involved in the cause hopes that one day, more people will begin to think twice before committing crimes of any kind, but especially ones that end in violence.

“It’s two words that you want to go by and that’s “Do right”, and if you do right life will go easier for you,” Forte said.

Arkansas Stop the Violence says they hope events like this start a ripple effect, as they look to remind everyone that they too can play a role in diminishing crime.
