After a year away from college baseball, former Georgia baseball coach Scott Stricklin is back in the game.
Stricklin is joining Georgia Tech’s staff as director of operations, Stricklin confirmed to the Athens Banner-Herald on Thursday night.
Georgia parted ways with Stricklin after 10 seasons in June of 2023. He went 299-236-1 with the Bulldogs and 121-146-1 in the SEC with three trips to the NCAA Tournament.
“I love the game of baseball and missed being a part of it,” Stricklin said in a text message. “This is a great opportunity be on a staff full of coaches that I know well, respect and trust. I’m excited to be back in college baseball.”
Stricklin will work again with longtime Georgia Tech coach Danny Hall. Stricklin was a volunteer coach for the Yellow Jackets in 1998 and was assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Georgia Tech from 2002-04 before becoming head coach at Kent State from 2005-13, where he made a trip to the College World Series.
Stricklin was able to spend more time with his family in the last year, including son Cale, a North Oconee grad who started 13 games at catcher last season for Auburn as a freshman.
A native of Athens, Ohio, he interviewed for the Ohio State job this year but instead will be staying in the state.
Georgia and Georgia Tech typically play a three-game series each year. The Yellow Jackets went 33-25 last season, falling in the Athens Regional final to Georgia 8-6 in 10 innings.
