Video: California high school game ends early due to fight

A blowout high school football game on Friday night was called to an end early after the two teams got in a fight in which punches were thrown and a helmet was yanked off an athlete.

In the fourth quarter of the game against two teams in the Fresno, California area, the fight broke out during a punt by Garza High School to Central High School, according to the Sacramento Bee. Video of the chaotic scene shows some punches being thrown and appears to show a player from Graza ripping the helmet off a Central player and swinging it back in his direction one time before releasing it.

See a video below from the start of the punt through coaches’ intervention:

The game was called to a close with about 10 minutes remaining and Central leading 40-0. Sophomore quarterback Jelani Dippel completed his varsity debut by completing 20 of 26 passes for 293 yards and a pair of touchdowns, according to the Sac Bee. Junior running back Brandon Smith added 187 yards and three touchdowns on just three carries.
