Ohio State was at one point hot and heavy for Dylan Raiola, who was rated as a five-star in the 2024 recruiting class. At one point, the Georgia native was committed to become a Buckeye. Early on in 2022, the Nebraska legacy gave his verbal to Ryan Day and company, but he eventually changed his mind as some recruits will do.
At the time of his decommitment from Ohio State, it was viewed as a devastating loss to the class and most pundits viewed Raiola as a program- changing talent. He would eventually commit to the Georgia Bulldogs, but that was also short-lived as he eventually put pent to paper with the upstart Cornhuskers.
It was recently announced that he would be starting for Nebraska this season. Most people expected this to be the case, but with the announcement becoming official, it is funny to look back on the Raiola recruiting circus.
At the end of the day, his commitment to Nebraska was not shocking considering his father, Dominic Raiola, had a great career as a Husker, but the way he handled his recruitment left a sour taste in a few fans’ mouths. Overall with the addition of Julian Sayin and Air Noland to the 2024 Buckeye recruiting class, I think some would see his decommitment as a blessing.
