Lillianna Cawthron of Londonderry, N.H. dies in crash on I-93

A 17-year-old girl died Friday after her vehicle went off Interstate 93 in Londonderry, N. H., and crashed into woods next to the highway , authorities said.

Lillianna Cawthron of Londonderry was pronounced dead at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, where she was rushed following the single car crash that occurred at 2:47 p.m., according to a statement from New Hampshire State Police.

Troopers responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash on the southbound side of the highway. Witnesses told Troopers that a 2008 Mercury Milan went off the right-hand side of the highway and ran into several trees, the statement said.

Cawthron was briefly trapped in her vehicle. The highway was temporarily shut down while firefighters removed her from the vehicle.

“Our firefighers utilized extrication tools, the Jaws of Life, in order to gain access to the patient,” Battalion Fire Chief Bruce Hallowell of Londonderry Fire Rescue told WMUR-TV. “The patient was determined to be in critical condition.”

A medical helicopter was canceled, due to the severity of her injuries, and she was taken by a Derry ambulance to Elliot Hospital, Hallowell said.

For approximately four hours, traffic was restricted to two travel lanes as the vehicle was removed from the scene and an investigation was conducted, the statement said.

The crash remains under investigation.
