New site chosen for Nevada State Veterans Memorial in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Established in 2015 to honor the heroes of the United States, the Nevada State Veterans Memorial is now set to be relocated within the Las Vegas valley.

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) and the City of Las Vegas are joining forces to celebrate the relocation of the memorial with a ceremony at the Grant Sawyer State Building, located just north of downtown Las Vegas.

Governor Joe Lombardo, Nevada State Public Works, and NDVS, in collaboration with Las Vegas Ward 4 Councilwoman Francis Allen-Palenske, have worked diligently to ensure the memorial stays within city limits. Their efforts have led to the selection of the Thunderbird Family Sports Complex as the memorial’s new home.

The redesigned site will potentially feature an outdoor amphitheater with the memorial as its backdrop, along with upgraded amenities such as parking, lighting, and improved accessibility, according to NDVS.

The relocation ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13, at 9 a.m.

The event will take place at the memorial’s current location in front of the Grant Sawyer Building, located at 555 East Washington Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Veterans Memorial stands as a tribute to the dedication of those who have served and continue to serve in our nation’s military.
