2020: Two sports betting bills, H.B. 5168 and S 21, are introduced but fail to progress. H.B. 5168 would have allowed the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Indians, plus off-track betting operators, to operate Connecticut sportsbooks. Conversely, S 21 pertained to tribal arrangements. In addition to sports betting, the bill would have authorized online gaming and brought a casino in Bridgeport.
2019: Sports betting is omitted from a special fall legislative session.
2018: The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) strikes down the Professional Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), empowering each state to address online gambling and sports betting.
2017: Attempts to regulate sports betting in Connecticut begin with Public Act 17-209. This act enables the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) to expand oversight to the new industry and monitor federal activity surrounding sports betting.
