A graduate of the University of Alabama is taking on a new role in Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
Ian Sams, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at UA, is becoming senior national spokesperson and senior adviser for rapid response, the Washington Post reported.
Sams posted about his new role on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday morning.
“So proud to be joining the amazing and talented team at @KamalaHQ for the home stretch of this campaign,” Sams’ post read. “Getting to reunite with my old boss @KamalaHarris as a spokesman is a privilege, and in 80 days we will make history and elect her President of the United States.”
Previously, Sams was a spokesman for oversight and investigations under the Biden administration.
During Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign, Sams was her national press secretary.
At his new role, Sams will be tasked with appearing on TV, helping the Harris campaign channel her voice and responding to attacks on the VP’s record.
Sams is not the only Alabama grad entangled in politics in D.C.
Kaitlan Collins, a Prattville-native and 2014 graduate of Alabama became CNN’s
at age 29.
Collins currently hosts a show on CNN called “The Source”, where she interviews U.S. presidential candidates and other high-profile political figures.
