Polestar 3 Pledges Allegiance to the US of A, Production Starts in South Carolina

Polestar 3

The Polestar 3 is now officially born in the USA. In fact, it is the brand’s first model to come to life in our market, and production just kicked off at the South Carolina facility.
According to the car manufacturer, the electric crossover comes to life in South Carolina for the United States and European markets, and it is also manufactured in Chengdu, China. Polestar’s head honcho, Thomas Ingenlath, referred to this model as being the “best” one out there.

“Manufacturing Polestar 3 in the USA is a crucial step for us. Now, we offer customers in America an electric SUV that is built in America. Exporting the South Carolina-produced Polestar 3 to Europe will strengthen our business on a broader scope,” said CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “Polestar 3 has received super reviews from global automotive media, with strong customer test drive interest. I strongly believe this is the best-looking and best-driving SUV in the market today.”

Unveiled in 2022 and delayed a few times due to various issues, the Polestar 3 utilizes familiar underpinnings. It’s based on the SPA2 construction, which is shared with the Volvo EX90 electric crossover. Both have similar proportions and benefit solely from battery-electric firepower. The older SPA (1) platform underpins a whole bunch of Volvos, from the S60 and XC60 to the S90 and XC90. It is also the foundation stone of the defunct Polestar 1 and the Lynk & Co 09.

Even though production of the Polestar 3 just commenced at the South Carolina factory for the Western world, the car manufacturer already announced its pricing and specifications for the United States. Here, interested parties can choose between different configurations.

The lineup starts with the Long Range Dual-Motor trim level, which has 620 pound-foot (840 Nm) of torque and 483 hp (490 ps/360 kW). The 0-60 mph (97 kph) is a 4.8-second affair, and the top speed is 130 mph (kph). The Long Range Dual-Motor with Performance Pack boosts the thrust and output to 671 lb-ft (910 Nm) and 510 hp (517 ps/380 kW), dropping the acceleration by three-tenths of a second and maintaining the same top speed.

Polestar’s 3 Long Range Dual-Motor offers an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 315 miles (507 km), and the 3 Long Range Dual-Motor with Performance Pack can do up to 279 miles (449 km) on a full charge. DC charging from 10-80% takes half an hour, and a full recharge from 0 to 100% at an AC connection takes 11 hours.  The former model starts at $73,400 and the latter at $79,400 in our market. The Polestar 3 is also available in the Launch Edition configuration, and for this variant, interested parties will have to pay at least $78,900.
