ND man gets 37.5 years for child sexual exploitation

A North Dakota man was sentenced to 37.5 years in federal prison after he was convicted for taking pictures of nearly a dozen children in various stages of nudity.

Jason Lathe Hutchinson of Dunn County, 54, will also be required to serve a lifetime of supervised release. He was charged with three counts of producing and eight counts of attempting to produce images depicting the sexual exploitation of minor, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota said in a statement.

Law enforcement received a report in 2023 stating that Hutchinson was placing hidden cameras in bathrooms on his properties, capturing images of minors while they were going into the bathroom, or entering and exiting the shower, the statement said. A search warrant determined he had been engaging in the practice since 1992. Hutchinson photographed at least 11 minors, ranging from ages 5 to 17.

“The sentence handed down to Hutchinson sends a clear message to predators that they will be held accountable, and they are subject to significant punishments for preying on the most vulnerable in our communities,” Jamie Holt, HSI St. Paul Special Agent in Charge, said in the statement.
