Summer camping tips you need to know

Here are 3 tips to turn camping into glamping.

ProblemSolved, USA TODAY

Many Arizonans are sick of the heat by late July, when summer seems to stretch itself farther into the latter half of the year than desired. Triple-digit temperatures lingering in September call for a break from metro Phoenix life and one more vacation before summer officially ends.

Finding the best vacation spot that will cater to, accommodate or excite everyone in a family of different personalities and ages is a huge barrier for parents. Luckily, USA Today has narrowed down the best family-friendly campground in the country and this Arizona site cracked the top three.

Here’s why you should (and how you can) visit the best family campground in Arizona.

Here are the best family campgrounds, according to USA TODAY.

This lakefront resort is located on the Arizona side of the Colorado River in Lake Havasu City. While the Islander Resort does not offer traditional tent camping sites, it does have plenty of RV camping sites and vacation homes to rent or buy.

All RV sites on this little island are approximately 36 inches by 50 inches gravel lots with a concrete picnic table area. According to the website, full hookups include 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer to fully support your mobile home.

Alternatively, visit this resort in a rental home. All of Islander Resort’s units — individually decorated to create a unique vibe — come with satellite TV, a private shaded deck, an outdoor grill, a fully equipped kitchen and parking.

The resort’s most coveted amenity is its lake access. Whether you are boarding your boat at the private docks or wading on the beach, enjoy Lake Havasu throughout your stay. When not enjoying these cool waters, spend time with your family and new neighbors at the resort’s pool, hot tub, pickleball courts, putting greens, library and more activities catered to your niche interests.

While all of its rentals and rental sites have a two-night minimum stay requirement, this resort’s pet-friendly amenities, plethora of activities, the range of camping or renting options coupled with Lake Havasu City’s ideal weather — above 60 degrees in the winter and below 110 degrees in the summer — makes Islander Resort a great vacation spot for families year-round.
