Boerne Little League will be facing Council Rock Newtown Little League Thursday in its opening game of the 2024 Little League World Series.
The Texas team will be representing the Southwest Region in the tournament after winning all four games in its regional. Meanwhile, Council Rock Newtown LL is entering the LLWS riding an 18-game win streak. If Boerne LL beats the Pennsylvania representatives, it’ll take on the winner of Lake Mary LL and South Hill LL at 6 p.m. Monday at Lamade Stadium. Two more wins sends Boerne to the U.S. title game.
Boerne is in Kendall County, about 90 miles southwest of Austin.
If Boerne loses, it heads to the elimination bracket for a game at 6 p.m. Saturday vs. Salem LL. From there it would have to win five games straight to make the U.S final.

Texas vs Pennsylvania in 2024 LLWS: Live score updates, highlightsFirst inning
6:20 p.m.: Julian Hurst leads off with a double but is stranded at second after a flyout, groundout and strikeout. Team Texas will take the field.
6:35 p.m.: Boerne pitcher Caden Guffey collects a strikeout off the first batter but walks the second. A Pennsylvania groundball gets two runners on base after the throw to first is just late. With two runners on base, Nick Longo hits another groundball that is initially called a double-play, though Longo is called safe on review.
With runners on first and third, Guffey gets a second strikeout to end the inning.
Second inning
6:40 p.m.: Doc Mogford gets on base for Boerne after a wild pitch by Council Rock Newtown. Mogford then makes it to second after the catcher fails to wrangle a slider. Aiden Muñoz puts one on the ground and a tricky bounce sends the ball past the first baseman, allowing Mogford to score the first run of the day. Muñoz makes it to second but a strikeout ends the inning.
6:50 p.m.: Council Rock Newtown had a runner reach second after a throwing error by Guffey, but the right-hander bounced back with a strikeout. A hard-hit lineout to center ended the inning.
Third inning
7 p.m.: Council Rock Newtown switched out its ace pitcher Saverio Longo, due to pitch count, for Dean Hamilton after getting the first two outs of the inning. Newtown’s manager came out to talk to the umpire after Ben Burkhart appeared to lean into a pitch from Hamilton was grazed, but Burkhart was able to stay at first after an umpires’ conference. Hurst then Gray Collins followed with singles to load the bases. Hamilton hit Cooper Hastings to drive in a run and give Texas a 2-0 lead. Hamilton retired Kole Newson on a flyout to end the frame with the bases loaded.
7:10 p.m.: Hurst, a 5-foot-11 righty and the team’s ace, took over on the mound against the bottom three of Pennsylvania’s lineup. He struck out the first batter then walked lefty Will Siveter. He struck out the final two batters of the inning out to strand the runner at first.
Fourth inning
7:20 p.m.: Guffey hit the first pitch of the frame over the left-center wall to push the lead to 3-0. Hamilton was pulled for right-hander Tyler Neeld. Mogford reached first on a hard-hit chopper past third base before a lineout to center. Neeld retired Muñoz looking before walking Dylan Burke. He was able to set down Jett Matthews to end the inning.
7:30 p.m.: Hurst notched his fourth strikeout against Brayden Peiffer and fifth against Neeld to being the fourth. Hurst walked Longo to end a streak of four straight Ks, but set down Greyson Gage on three pitches to push Texas six outs from a win.
Fifth inning
7:40 p.m.: Kaleb Christ was hit by a pitch before singles by Burkhart and Hurst to load the bases. Pennsylvania’s infield was drawn in to prevent further runs, but Collins walked to push the lead to 4-0. Neeld retired the next batter on a 1-2 fielder’s choice before another pitching change. Siveter, a left-hander, took over.
Newson blew the game open with a grand slam to give Boerne, Texas a commanding 8-0 lead. It was Texas’ second straight game with a grand slam, including the regional championship. A groundout was followed by a home run for Mogford down the left-field line to make the game 9-0. Mogford hit a homer in his last game as well, according to the ESPN broadcast. A strikeout ended the frame after a six-run outburst.
7:55 p.m.: Hurst caught a popup for out No. 1 and notched another two strikeouts to end the inning.
Sixth inning
8:10 p.m.: Muñoz fought off multiple two-strike pitches and ended up with a single to right-center followed by a flyout. Matthews hit a single to put runners at the corners with one out. Christ then walked to load the bases. After a Burkhart strikeout, a groundout ended the threat.
8:15 p.m.: Hurst notched his ninth strikeout of the night, this time looking, for the first out. He then fielded a bouncer in front of the plate for bring his team one win from advancing in the tournament. Hurst struck out Siveter to end the game.

Has Texas ever won the Little League World Series?
Texas has only made the finals of the LLWS once since 2001, with Lufkin LL finishing as the tournament runner-up in 2017. The last time Texas won the title was in 1966 with Westbury LL, a team based out of Houston. Last year, the Needville, Texas team lost in the U.S. finals.
