Paralympic symbol unveiled in Paris

The three colored Agitos, the symbol for the Paralympic Games, hangs from the Arch de Triomphe.

While Olympics wrapped up earlier this month, Paris 2024 isn’t finished yet.

The 2024 Paralympic Games are set to get going in Paris in less than two weeks, hosting the best of the best across 549 events in 22 different sports.

Back in July, 138 athletes qualified for the 2024 U.S. Paralympic Team, which will fully be announced on Aug. 19. In total, there are 177 countries, along with those from the Neutral and Refugee teams, set to compete when the events begin. That includes 10 countries that have never had representation at the Paralympics.

As the world counts down to the opening ceremony, here’s what to know about the Games’ official start and some of its competitors from Florida.

When are the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games?

The 2024 Paris Paralympic Games begin with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, August 28, and will run through the closing ceremony on Sunday, September 8.

When Is the Paris 2024 Paralympics Opening Ceremony?

The Paralympic Opening Ceremony will take place on Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. EST at the Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysées.

“While the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony will be the first of its kind, its monumental and popular concept is, for me, first and foremost a magnificent source of inspiration. From the Champs-Elysées to Place de la Concorde, I look forward to creating this spectacle that will transform the heart of Paris, with performances that have never been seen before,” Thomas Jolly, Artistic Director for the Ceremonies, said in a press release.

“A spectacle that will showcase the Paralympic athletes and the values that they embody. A spectacle that will unite spectators and television audiences worldwide around the unique spirit of the Paralympic Games.”

How to watch 2024 Paris Olympic Games: TV, streaming and schedule

Select events broadcast across NBC, USA Network, E!, Telemundo, CNBC and Golf Channel, while all 22 events will be streamed with closed captioning on Peacock.

There will be more than 1,500 hours of live coverage of the Paralympic Games, making Peacock the “most comprehensive Paralympic destination in U.S. media history,” according to NBC Sports.
