Alabama plays CMA Music Fest for the first time in 19 years

On Thursday, CMT’s star-studded tribute to the band Alabama will air on Country Music Television.
Comprised of Alabama-born cousins Jeff Cook, Teddy Gentry and Randy Owen, the southern rock-country band is known for hits “Song of the South,” “Dixieland Delight” and “Mountain Music.”
Jeff Cook died in November 2022 at 73 years old after battling Parkinson’s disease, but Gentry and Owen have continued the band in his absence.
Now, CMT is honoring the band’s over 50 year run and their musical legacy with a television tribute.
Here’s what to know.
Who is performing on ‘CMT Giants: Alabama?’
In January, artists gathered in Nashville’s Fisher Center at Belmont University to record the special tribute to Alabama.
Stars Evander Holyfield, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, Martina McBride, Vince Gill and more spoke on Alabama’s role in their lives and how their music had touched them.
Blake Shelton, Riley Green, Old Dominion, Sam Hunt, Jason Aldean and more took the stage to play the band’s hits. Alabama — of course — hit the stage too.

The broadcast will first air Thursday night, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m. CDT on CMT. On Friday, the special will be available on CMT Video On Demand.
