BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) – Red, white, and blue were everywhere in Paris over the past few weeks, but Virginia Tech colors were also making their mark.
James Morrison, a Virginia Tech graduate, recently returned to the U.S. after a three-week stint in Paris, where he served as DJ for Team USA House, the official fan base for Team USA during the Olympics.
“What Team USA did for Team USA House, the fans, the Olympians, their families, their friends, is nothing short of magic,” Morrison said.
Morrison is going into his 11th season as Virginia Tech Athletics’ DJ.
“Without my time at Virginia Tech, and it’s ongoing, there’s no reason why I would be in Paris at Team USA House for the Olympics,” Morrison said.
Of course, there’s the big question, did he play Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”, the Tech sports favorite?
“I absolutely did,” Morrison said. “I can remember vividly when Katie Ledecky won that swimming race by a landslide, the Noah Lyles moment when he won the 100m, a couple of others. I saved it, it’s not something that you just sprinkle everywhere.”
Americans were celebrating often, winning 126 medals.
“You have fans all around this venue that are screaming their minds out, waving flags, decked out in red, white and blue,” Morrison said. “The closest thing I could genuinely describe is Virginia Tech, home game, Lane Stadium, we win. That was Team USA House.”
Amidst the Olympic excitement, Morrison made a personal milestone. He proposed to his girlfriend in front of the Eiffel Tower with the Olympic rings in the background.
“I got down on one knee in front of the backlit Eiffel Tower with the Olympic rings on it,” Morrison said. “It was the perfect icing on the cake for such a special once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
