More than 130 companies in New Jersey have made Inc. Magazine’s annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing privately held firms in the nation.

Altogether, the 132 local ventures on the list recorded 204% median growth and added 11,436 jobs to the state’s economy, according to the ranking published Aug. 13. Of the list makers, nine are newly founded, while 75 are repeat honorees.

This year’s list represents companies that have driven rapid revenue growth while navigating inflationary pressure, rising capital costs and hiring challenges, Inc. noted.

Among the top 500 enterprises, the average median three-year growth rate ticked up 1,637%. In all, this year’s Inc. 5000 companies have added approximately 874,940 jobs to the economy over the past three years.

According to Inc., companies are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2020 to 2023. To qualify, businesses must be U.S. based; founded by March 31, 2020; and are privately held, for-profit, independent entities with minimum revenue of $100,000 for 2020 and $2 million for 2023.

Commenting on this year’s list, Inc. editor-in-chief Mike Hofman said, “To see all of the intriguing and surprising ways that companies are transforming sectors, from health care and AI to apparel and pet food, is fascinating for me as a journalist and storyteller.”

He added, “Congratulations to this year’s honorees, as well, for growing their businesses fast despite the economic disruption we all faced over the past three years, from supply chain woes to inflation to changes in the workforce.”

At the top

Vytalize Health, a Hoboken-based risk-bearing provider enablement platform, came in at No. 1 after a reported 90,779% growth year over year.

Faris Ghawi, CEO and co-founder of Vytalize Health, remarked, “We are thrilled and humbled to be named the fastest-growing private company in America by Inc. Our journey has always been about supporting physicians so they can provide the highest-quality care possible to patients. This recognition further motivates us to continue our mission to transform lives by advancing value-based care.”

Only two other New Jersey companies cracked the Top 100: Like Air Puffcorn, a popcorn alternative from Madison that scored big on ABC’s “Shark Tank” earlier this year and Hyqoo, a human resources service headquartered in Basking Ridge.

The rest of the best

Inc. Magazine’s annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing privately held firmsViolet PR, a Montclair public relations firm, landed at No. 2,323 on the list. It was also ranked as No. 291 within the advertising & marketing category and No. 61 across all New Jersey companies. April Mason, Violet PR’s founder and president, said the firm is thrilled to make its debut.

“Over the past year, the Violet PR team has doubled down on growing our business and supporting even more clients committed to making a difference,” said Mason. “Our team has expanded to 14 full-time employees, and we’ve onboarded a number of new clients in the past year. This recognition proves our continued commitment to doing meaningful work.”

Vital Contingent Planning, a New Brunswick consulting company that provides crisis staffing solutions to the health care industry, made the list for a second consecutive year, coming in at No. 2,470.

Atif Chauhdry, founder and CEO of Vital Contingent Planning, said his company was honored to again be included.

“Our ability to consistently deliver mission critical patient care to our clients at their time of need highlights our team’s dedication. The growth of our consulting services and our staffing brand, VCP Staff, has allowed us to launch additional services that improve the efficiency of hospital operations while reducing cost,” he said.

JAG Physical Therapy in Bridgewater is also celebrating. In addition to its overall ranking as No. 3,019, JAG was No. 82 among private companies in New Jersey and No. 215 for health services.

John Gallucci Jr., president and CEO of JAG Physical Therapy, stated, “I’m incredibly grateful for all the hard work the entire JAG Physical Therapy team has put into our business, making five consecutive years of growth possible. It’s because of their efforts that we are the preferred PT provider for patients and sports teams across New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.”

Gigi Schweikert, CEO at Lightbridge Academy in Iselin, said her company’s placement as No. 2,508 reflects “the hard work and dedication of our entire team to drive meaningful change in the communities we serve.”
