Jay Higgins holds court on Iowa football, Wrigley Field, Caitlin Clark
The Iowa linebacker from Indianapolis was hilarious in his second stint at Big Ten Football Media Days.
Iowa football had one of the elite defenses in the nation during the 2023 season, and linebacker Jay Higgins played a major role in the Hawkeyes’ success on that side of the ball.
As a result, Higgins on Wednesday was named to USA Today’s preseason college football All-America team. He is the only Iowa player on the list and one of three total linebackers to make the cut.
Higgins was also named to the Sporting News preseason All-America team and the Butkus Award Watch List, given annually to the top linebacker in the country, among other preseason honors.
Higgins was named a first- or second-team All-American in 2023 by various media organizations, as well as a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and media.

On a top-10 defense in the nation, Higgins led the team with 171 tackles (79 solo, 92 assists), which led the Big Ten, ranked third in the country and tied the program record in a season. He also added two sacks, five TFLs, one interception and one forced fumble across 14 games.
It was his first season as a full-time starter.
