Tennessee swimming and diving director Matt Kredich is being rewarded again for the consistent success of the program with a contract extension.
Kredich received a similar deal last year, signing a one-year extension with a $10,000 raise. His contract now takes him through April 2029 and his base salary was raised to $270,000. Kredich recently finished his 19th year at UT and 12th season leading both the men’s and women’s programs, which had their best collective finish in program history.
The program also sent a program-record 17 athletes to the Paris Olympics, where two earned medals. UT swimmers also set five national records and advanced to seven finals.
“Matt has shown outstanding leadership in building one of the country’s top swimming and diving programs here on Rocky Top,” athletics director Danny White said in a school release. “Under his direction, our program constantly sets new standards and is steadily moving toward becoming the best program in the nation!”
Both teams finished last season in the top six nationally for the first time in program history, the women fourth and the men sixth. That followed both teams finishing in the top 10 at NCAAs for the first time ever during the 2022-23 season. The women are on a streak off six straight top-10 finishes.
Tennessee won a combined five silver and three bronze medals at the NCAA championships, and it earned eight SEC titles between both programs. Kredich has coached athletes to 90 SEC and nine NCAA titles since 2005-06, and both programs have earned 742 All-American certificates during his tenure.
Four Vols and Lady Vols have won five SEC Swimmer of the Year awards, including 2023 50-meter freestyle national champion Jordan Crooks, who represented the Cayman Islands at the Paris Olympics.
