South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley took an unconventional approach to filling a nonconference matchup for the Gamecocks’ upcoming season.
As of Tuesday, it looks like it may have worked out.

Staley posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that South Carolina was able to find an opponent for its 2024-25 women’s basketball schedule after reaching out looking for a team with a post on Friday.
Staley confirmed South Carolina found an opponent for the 2024-25 women’s college basketball season via social media on Tuesday. Here’s her full message:

“When going to the peeps on here on this app allows you to converse with great people and get options to complete schedules WINNING,” Staley wrote on Tuesday. “…. We gotta game y’all. Paperwork is not complete but we are good for it! I love my HBCUs! Thank you for reaching out! Love up!”
Staley didn’t mention the team that would play the defending national champions, but did tease that it’s from a historically Black college/university (HBCU).

Staley, one of the most successful coaches in college sports, is fresh off leading the Gamecocks to an undefeated season that ended with a national championship, her third with the program. The 54-year-old coach has reached the Final Four six times at South Carolina.
The Gamecocks’ nonconference schedule features games against Michigan, North Carolina State, UCLA, Purdue, Duke and others.
