Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society to host fundraiser

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society (MFGS) is holding a garage sale fundraiser at 1313 Riverside Drive in Auburn on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Come browse our great eclectic collection of household items, CDs, books, puzzles, crafts, tools, etc. as well as genealogical research aids, maps and plates. Please, no early birds. Readers may email cahitchco@aol.com for more garage sale information. Please put MFGS Garage Sale in the subject line.

ANSWER: All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit MFGS, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to assisting individuals in discovering their family’s Franco history. And did you know that the MFGS Library, located on the second floor of The Fortin Group Funeral Home at 217 Turner St. in Auburn, contains online resources and over 3200 print volumes of research materials many of which cannot be found online. Please visit www.mfgen.org for more information about MFGS.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A large indoor/outdoor rummage and yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St. in South Paris. A bag sale will follow from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Adult and children’s clothes, books, toys, furniture, kitchenware, holiday décor, household items, tools, and much more will be available at very reasonable prices. — No name, South Paris

ANSWER: I hope you have a big crowd of Sun Spotters there.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Edward Little High School Class of 1956 Reunion Committee is planning their 68th reunion on Aug. 29.

We have reached out to as many classmates as we could, but some people may not have received the letter we mailed because of the wrong address.

The committee is planning to retire after this reunion so let’s have a great turnout! If you have any questions and would like to attend, call me at 312-5405 and leave a message. — Betty, no town

ANSWER: This is just awesome and I love that you are still getting together after all these years. Let me know the details of the time and place so I can remind everyone who wants to come.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Your column has been a help to so many, and I hope it will be for me, too!

My 17-year-old granddaughter’s boyfriend lost the chain she gave him for their first anniversary as a couple while he was playing in the recent Lobster Bowl at Lewiston High School. They are just devastated!

The chain is gold with two charms, a cross and the letter “N.” If anyone has found it, we would be ever so grateful if they would call 212-6542 and make two great kids very happy! Thank you! — Sue, Auburn

ANSWER: Let us know what happens — my fingers are crossed!

This column is for you, our readers. It is for your questions and comments. There are only two rules: You must write to the column and sign your name. We won’t use it if you ask us not to. Please include your phone number. Letters will not be returned or answered by mail, and telephone calls will not be accepted. Your letters will appear as quickly as space allows. Address them to Sun Spots, P.O. Box 4400, Lewiston, ME 04243-4400. Inquiries can also be emailed to sunspots@sunjournal.com.
