Richmond police identify man killed in South Side shooting

Richmond police detectives identified the man killed in Friday morning’s shooting in the city’s South Side.

On Friday at approximately 1:35 a.m., officers were called to the 1500 block of Treehaven Drive for the report of a person shot.

Officers at the scene discovered a man identified as Benjamin Herman, 24, of Richmond, on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. Herman was transported to a local hospital, where he died later that morning.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

03-30-1951 (cutline): Belvidere Street Reopens–The city yesterday took down the detour signs that kept U.S. Route 1 traffic off the south lanes of Belvidere Street, from Broad to Franklin Street, for five weeks. The street was widened from 38 to 44 feet and the turning radius at broad increased so big trucks could turn without cutting into the two lanes of northbound traffic.
