A man from Pennsylvania is facing federal charges for allegedly voting in two states in the 2020 general election.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania announced charges on Friday for 62-year-old Philip Pulley of Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania, which include falsely registering to vote, double voting and election fraud.

Court documents read that Pulley, who between 2005 and 2023 was registered to vote in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, registered to vote in Broward County, Florida, in August 2018 using his home address in Lighthouse Point. County records reviewed by the Associated Press (AP) found that the defendant was a Republican when he registered to vote from his Lighthouse Point residence.

In February 2020, investigators say that Pulley maintained his home address in both Montgomery and Broward Counties and filled out an application to vote in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, by using false information about his residency, previous address and Social Security number.

Pulley is accused of applying for a mail ballot in Philadelphia County in October 2020 ahead of the general election, where President Joe Biden defeated former President Donald Trump. The defendant also reportedly applied and submitted an absentee ballot in Broward County that same election cycle and voted in person in Montgomery County on or about Election Day on November 3, 2020. Court documents say that Pulley voted for president and vice president on all three occasions.

Investigators claim that Pulley also cast a vote during the 2022 midterm election in all three counties, which included voting twice for the open Senate seat in Pennsylvania that year.

The charges against the defendant carry a maximum possible prison sentence of five years, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Eastern Pennsylvania. Possible punishment could also include up to three years of supervised release, a $10,000 to $250,000 fine and a $100 special assessment.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nancy Potts and Mark Dubnoff are prosecuting the case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Eastern Pennsylvania told Newsweek they could not provide additional information since it’s an ongoing prosecution.

Newsweek reached out to the DOJ via email for further information. An attorney for Pulley was not listed as of Monday.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that the 2020 election was stolen from him due to widespread voter fraud, although there has been no evidence uncovered to back these claims. A December 2021 report by AP found that there were fewer than 475 potential cases of voter fraud in the 2020 election across the six battleground states that Trump had filed lawsuits in challenging the results of the election. Biden won the election by over 70 million votes.
