Team USA earned its fifth consecutive gold medal on Saturday with a 98-87 win over host country France and will now look ahead to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, CA. The Americans have to figure out how they’re going to replace the likes of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry who were phenomenal in these Olympic Games.
Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid was a part of the run for Team USA, but there’s no guarantee he plays for America again in 2028. He recently teased he could play for his native country of Cameroon in 2028 so he’s another player Team USA would have to replace.
Enter Sixers All-Star Tyrese Maxey. The young guard out of Kentucky is primed for a spot on the next Olympic roster and former NBA guard of 16 years CJ Miles is excited to see it. Miles told Basketball News:
And there are guys who will rise up in the next couple of years who are more than capable of being handed the keys. I myself can’t wait to see Tyrese Maxey go [play in the Olympics].
One has to believe as long as Maxey continues to take steps forward–which is a good bet–that he will be a part of the 2028 Team USA roster. He has quickly morphed into one of the best players in the NBA and is a player who the Sixers will lean on as they chase a title of their own in the 2024-25 season.
