Pennsylvania was one of several states at the center of the controversy surrounding the 2020 election when the swing state took DAYS to tabulate the results, prompting former President Donald Trump to allege that the outcome was “rigged.”
The Pennsylvania Department of State set off serious concerns that 2024 will be no different when the agency announced on Thursday not to be alarmed if this year’s count takes a little time, but Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling foul.
“Pennsylvanians won’t always know the final results of all races on election night. Any changes in results that occur as counties continue to count ballots are not evidence that an election is rigged,” the state agency said.
The Sunshine State has 10 million more people than Pennsylvania, yet it can tabulate votes and produce results in a matter of hours after polls close.
“Florida elections have millions more votes cast than in PA elections, yet we count the votes and report the results on election night — and do so in an efficient and transparent manner. There is no reason why this cannot be done in every state in America,” DeSantis said in a post shared on X.

The Republican governor also touted a remarkable swing in the number of registered voters by party under his leadership.
DeSantis posted: “Six years ago, registered Democrats outnumbered registered Republicans by almost 300,000 — and Florida had never had more registered Republicans than Democrats in its history. Now, Republicans outnumber Democrats by 1 million voters, which is a sea change that few thought possible (and contrary to the many predictions that FL would become a blue state).”
“Leadership matters. Bold colors, not pale pastels,” he added.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from skeptical social media users who saw enough in the last presidential election, as seen on X:
Too bad Pennsylvania can’t recruit the past and present Pasco County supervisors of elections — Kurt Browning and Brian Corley — as consultants. No major Florida county reports faster or more accurately.

There’s no reason – unless they plan to rig their election results.

The difference is that @PAStateDept is trying to rig their elections and cheat like they did in 2020
It takes time to see how many illegal votes you need add to the count to push your candidate over the top ♂️

Unlike PA, Florida doesn’t try to cheat or manipulate the election results. There’s only one reason that swing states delay the vote results. We know it and they know it. Election Fraud. @PAStateDept

It takes time for the Democrats to see how many “votes” they need to make.
Gotta exceed the recounts thresholds, but not by too much.
In LA, they’ve been using precincts in New Orleans for this for decades
