After winning the first Olympic gold medal of his legendary career, Team USA star point guard Stephen Curry knows there’s a chance he won’t get a shot at another one.
Following his 24-point performance in Saturday’s 98-87 win over France in the gold-medal game at the Paris Olympics, Curry explained why the victory was so important to him and indicated that he potentially won’t be playing in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
“This might not come around again,” Curry said, per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. “It was very, very special.”

“There was a lot of relief. It wasn’t easy, but damn, I’m excited, man. This is everything that I wanted it to be and more so I’m excited,” USA guard Stephen Curry on his first gold medal.
Curry will be 40 years old at the time of the next Olympics. While he’s shown little signs of slowing down, it can be expected that the next Team USA roster will largely consist of the emerging stars from the NBA’s next generation.
If this stands as the only Olympics of his career, Curry made sure it was a memorable experience. He connected on a whopping 17 three-pointers combined in the final against France and the semifinal against Serbia to help secure Team USA’s fifth straight gold medal.
The two-time NBA MVP is already well on his way to a trip to the Hall of Fame, and his Olympic performance adds another chapter to his incredible legacy.
