PARIS — When you’re at the Olympics, you really have no idea how folks are consuming the Games back home. Oh, sure, you can probably guess that NBC wasn’t showing much of that incredible moment at the judo venue that you enjoyed so much, and that if you saw Simone Biles step stumble on the balance beam, rest assured, the 40 million TV viewers did, too.
But the overall vibe is hard to gauge. Over here, the past two and a half weeks have been an exciting, joyful time for nearly everyone I’ve encountered. Even the French aren’t complaining! The venues were fantastic, the Metro made moving around the city easy, and most of all, the athletes did their part to make the gold-medal moments worth all the trouble.
